The Karate Dojo of Jackson created it's first Black Belt Class on Saturday, April 23rd after a gruel-ing day long test of en-durance, skill and disci-pline that challenged students. The cold and rain didn’t help the situa-tion for students who have been training and practicing for over four years for this day.

Master Eric Alders and The Karate Dojo

Since he was 7 years old, Eric Alders
always wanted to run his own karate school. As a child back
in 1983, living in nearby Howell Township, he began taking
karate lessons and fell in love with martial arts. In 1995,
at the age of 18, he became a black belt, training in the
mixed martial arts of Tae Kwon Doe, Kenpo, Hapkido,
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Aikido.

I Will Survive

Being a Martial Arts Industry Association (MAIA) Elite
member, working on the grassroots level, and being creative
have jointly helped us to not only survive in this economy, but
also to continue to grow every month. Keeping costs low by
offering buddy events (pizza, class, etc.), like a making-friends
party for back-to-school season, allowed us to bring in 40 leads
to our school for only about $100 for pizza and juice.

Empower Your Child

It’s easy to see why we would think of these
people as heroes. They make exciting movies
and perform incredible feats in sports, but they
are not really heroes. Instead, we call these
people idols. We look up to them and some of us
want to be like them but they’re not heroes.

Jackson Youth Wrestling wrestler Sebastian Rivera is the February athlete of the month after an out-standing undefeated season in the program. Rivera is our first non-high school recipient. He has achieved an incredible feat of 82 consecutive wins without a loss in the Jersey Shore Wrestling League.

Cole Miller, the 9th ranked UFC lightweight fighter in the world came to Jackson to train with local residents at the Karate Dojo, one of just a small handful of level 3 certified American Top Team training centers in the United States. Miller spent two days with MMA students at the Dojo and showed them some additional skills that are neces-sary to be able to compete at the top level of MMA competition. Dojo owner Eric Alders also brought in ATT trainer Fernando Falkenbach for a Sunday afternoon session.
